Why is time travel so confusing?

I know a lot of people have these same questions, but here it is: If you went back in time and killed yourself in the past, then would you're present self vanish? And if you killed yourself there wouldn't be anyone to kill you in the future/past...So then you would survive right? Then of course you are alive so you CAN you back in time to kill yourself, and the cycle starts over again. .............................mind raped!
